Mineral Element Contents and Antisickling Activity of Cyttaranthus congolensis and Hypoxis angustifolia Traditionally Used to Treat Sickle Cell Disease in Kwilu Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo

The objective of the present study was to determine composition in mineral elements, antisickling activity and osmotic brittleness test, twenty three extracts two plants Cyttaranthus congolensis, Hypoxis angustifolia used management sickle cell disease by traditional healers Kwilu province. Mineral analyses these were performed using X-ray fluorescence spectrometric method. Twenty three( 23) elements identified each among others: Potassium (K), Phosphorus (P), Calcium (Ca), Sodium (Na), Magnesium (Mg), Sulfur (S), Chlorine (Cl) trace such as: Aluminum (Al), Silicon (Si), Vanadium (V), Chromium (Cr), Manganese (Mn), Iron (Fe), Nickel (Ni), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Selenium (Se), Bromine (Br), Molybdenum (Mo), Tin (Sn), Iodine (I), Barium (Ba) Lead (Pb). related are: (Mg) (Mn). Of all are higher content while Lead, Tin, Bromine, amounts. congolensis extracts, tested Emmel test. results obtained showed a significant vitro for both plants. fragility test confirm that hemolysis rate decreased with increasing NaCl concentration. In presence anthocyanins, antihemolytic at different concentrations than control. This indicates action on red blood membrane.
